We recently caught up with Lewis Robinson, Activations Supervisor at Avonline Networks, a part of the Telecom Division at M Group Services, to talk about his role and what his day-to-day typically looks like.
Overall, how have you found your time here at Avonline?
I love it here, it’s very fast pace and full on but it’s one of the main reasons I enjoy it so much! It also heavily involves finding solutions to problems which is something I’m passionate about – there’s always a solution no matter what the issue.
What are your main responsibilities?
A main duty for me is managing my team of 13. I am responsible for supervising them, giving them clear briefs and plans for the work that needs to be done.
How have you found supervising a team?
I love it, I’ve also had really good feedback from my team since I became their supervisor. I have a very straight to the point style and I’ve been in basically every sector of engineering for 16 years now, so I’ve been in their shoes and know every role from start to finish. In general, I’ve always been really good at building repour and communicating with people. People will always know where they stand with me and I think that is how I’ve gained their respect and trust.
As well as this, I like to give a little back to my team. A little goes a long way, so I take them out for breakfast every month.
What advice would you give to someone looking to take a similar career path?
Grab everything you can, take all the learning in like a sponge to get to where you need to be. You’re always going to have bad days but your good days make up for it so try not to beat yourself up.
